Initial Thoughts
The Doc won. Dominating the competition. Not much of a surprise, with how heavily he is quoted inside of Twitchs' colorful communities. Endless amounts of iconic quotes and tons of BTTV emotes that commemorate the 2 times' success in the world of online livestream entertainment. Even though the votes came from a Forsen centric audience, this poll was only number 3 and the fact that Doc was voted the way he was, instead of other active streamers or at least people in the active Twitch sphere, or even just surrounding Forsen, says a lot about what this domain is about, what this society is about.
With every sculpt I'd like to test something new so I picked two things that I were on my list of possible extentions. One, move away from grayscale to some extend, and two, wrap a game res mesh onto the mesh.
So contrary to what it looks like in the end result, I could port the head mesh of Doc into any game engine right now and would have a bald Guy Beahm head sitting there. Initially I even played with the idea of making a game res model but it was just a bit too much going on and I didn't want to deal with Doc's wig, so I just did the wrapped and tweaked the values somewhat.
Process
The two time international videogame superstar has the best photographer and the most intriguing photoshoots as we know. Facinating scenery, action packed moments, perfect lighting and even more perfect hair. The only issue is that there aren't a lot of clean shots of Doc's face where I could pull reference from. He is an exremely expressive man and there are few photos of him giving the camera a neutral expression. Nontheless, Mr Denk did a lot of fantastic work and it worked good enough in the end.
The sculpt itself started again from a Forsen head which I wrapped the game res mesh around. This made the model game viable and gave me texture information that I could turn on and off. This also overwrote the pore data that I had beforehand and replaced it with scan data. The scan data was subpar but the workflow is vastly superior and a great base for any kind of skin texturing. I'll be using that in the future for sure. But of course I had to do a lot of actual sculpting which took a lot of time. Little thing to note, Dr. D has very distinct eyes.
Now the hardsurface stuff was a pretty welcoming pause from the sculpting. I made the glasses in Zbrush by extraction, pretty straight forward, badabing badaboom. The headphones were made in CAD and I took the Turtle Beach headphones as reference. And I hit them spot on if I might say so myself. a couple of inconsistencies but overall pretty on the point.
Lastly, I left that part that I dreaded the most for last. The hair. The bulletproof mullet. Making locks in Zbrush is complicated as fuck. It's frankly insane compared to most other stuff. I luckily managed to dig up a thread in which a guy explained that he used the ball brush to pull all hair segments together and then pull them out again. It worked well enough for me this time and for the sake of the project but in actual development I think I would need to split off more single strands or do the hair somewhere else.

Now with most of the things done, I added a the shoulder bust-ish area to the sculpt to give it more of a grounding, did the polypaint and most importantly, I made Doc smile. Pulled the teeth from my own presets and sculpted the smile á la Doc. Nothing much to explain there. I think the result speaks for itself. It's a pretty common expression as the back to back 1993/1994 blockbuster video game world champion does nothing but dominate his enemies, while laughthing in their faces.
The rendering was pretty standard, rendering out layers, this time with a bit more color, and comping everything in Photoshop. Added a couple of Doc-esque background images as well as a reflection in the glasses just because I wanted to add some color.
In the end, the sculpt came out pretty good and I will only need to change a bit of volume to be spot on I think. Will be able to easily use it in the future either way. Especially with the game res mesh underneath.
Good Run.
